Longinos 1 was a deacon (διάκονος) under the bishop of Gotthia, Ioannes 6; he delivered a message from Ioannes 6 to the patriarch of Jerusalem: Vita Ioannis Gotthiae, p. 190. For the date, c.758/780, see Ioannes 6. The patriarch may have been Theodoros 12 or Elias 12. Described as a disciple (μαθητής) of Ioannes 6; while returning from Jerusalem he twice fell into Arab hands and was twice saved after praying to the holy man (Ioannes 6); the first time he was ransomed for five hundred miliarisia by a high Arab official, the protonotarios of the Amir, after being hung on a cross, the second time his fetters loosened and fell off: Vita Ioannis Gotthiae, p. 193.
