Leo 281 is named in a list of archbishops of Thessalonike in the Synodikon of Orthodoxy; he is named fourth after Ioseph 3 (the brother of Theodoros 15, i.e. Theodore the Stoudite): Gouillard, "Synodikon", p. 114, IX, line 5. It is unlikely that he is identical with Leo 19, who was associated with the iconoclasts and is unlikely to have been recorded in a document celebrating the Triumph of Orthodoxy.
