Leo 10 was the son of the emperor Constantine VI (Konstantinos 8) and his second wife Theodote 1, he was born on 7 October 796 (ἐτέχθη τῷ βασιλεῖ υἱός, ὃν ἐπωνόμασε Λέοντα); he died on 1 May 797 (τέθνηκεν ὁ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ Λέων, καὶ ἐθρήνησεν αὐτὸν σφόδρα): Theoph. AM 6289, cf. Zon. XV 13. 3-5. He is alluded to in a letter of Theodoros 15 (Theodore the Stoudite): Theod. Stud., Ep. 31, pp. 84-88 (τὸ μοιχογέννητον τέκνον: p. 86, line 56).
