Kosmas 14 lived close to the monastery of Kalon Oros (in Lydia, near Apollonia; see Laurent, La Vie merveilleuse, Intro., pp. 41-43), where he left his young son, deaf and dumb, to be cured by Peter of Atroa (Petros 34) and to become a monk: Vita Petr. Atr. 60, p. 183. The incident is narrated among events from the reign of the emperor Michael II (Michael 10).
