Kallonas 1 was a spatharios (Καλλονᾶν τοὔνομα, σπαθάριον τῇ ἀξίᾳ) in the reign of the emperor Theophilos (Theophilos 5); an acquaintance of Michael Synkellos (Michael 51), who wrote letters to him which strengthened him in his support for the iconophile cause until his death; Kallonas 1 and Stephanos 140 are described as noble and learned (τοὺς εὐγενεστάτους καὶ λογιμωτάτους ἄνδρας): Vita Mich. Sync. 17.
