Kaisarios 1 was the son of the magister militum Sergius (Sergios 69); he was the commander of the army formed by the people of Naples, Amalfi and Caeta in 848/849 (during the twelfth indiction) to oppose the Saracen raiders on Italy; he was among the leaders who were summoned to Rome by the bishop of Rome, Leo IV (Leo 121), to explain their purpose ("inter quos tunc filius Sergi magistri militum, qui erat ordinatus super exercitum, nomine Cesarius, advenit"): Lib. Pont. 105. 50. For his previous involvement in opposition to the Saracens, see [Duchesne, Lib. Pont. I, p. 104, n. 38].
