Ioannes 522 was sakellarios and logothetes of the stratiotikon, he was sent by Eirene 1 to Longibardia in 788 with the former king of the Lombards Theodotos (Adalgisos 1) to oppose the Frankish king Charlemagne (Karoulos 1); they joined forces with the strategos of Sicily, Theodoros 13, and met the Franks in battle but Ioannes 522 was captured by them and cruelly put to death: Theoph. AM 6281 (Ἰωάννην, τὸν σακελλάριον καὶ λογοθέτην τοῦ στρατιωτικοῦ). Cf. also Ioannes 14 and Ioannes 18.
