A spatharios, Ioannes 450 was the addressee of a letter from Theodoros 15 (Theodore the Stoudite), written between 821 and 826; father of Eudokia 7; an iconoclast, he was persuaded by his dying daughter to give his promise to accept the veneration of icons: Theod. Stud., Ep. 463, pp. 661-664 (addressed Ἰωάννῃ σπαθαρίῳ), cf. Theod. Stud., Epigrammata 116 (an epitaph for Eudokia 7 recording her role in her father's conversion).
