Ioannes 445 was protospatharios and droungarios of the ploïmon and was the addressee of a letter from the patriarch Photius (Photios 1), written between 859 and September 867, encouraging him to govern justly (may Justice return διὰ τῆς σῆς ἀρχῆς - τοῦ σεμνοῦ ταύτης καὶ περιβλέπτου βήματος): Photius, Ep. 150 (II 6 Laourdas-Westerink) (addressed Ἰωάννῃ πρωτοσπαθαρίῳ καὶ δρουγγαρίῳ τοῦ πλοΐμου).
