Ioannes 383 was hypatos, demarchos and komes of the earon(?); owner of a seal dateable to the eighth century: Zacos and Veglery 2017. The name and titles read: Ἰωάννῃ ὑπάτῳ, δημάρχῳ καὶ κόμητι τοῦ ἐάρου. The meaning of his last title is unknown. It is not certain if earon was a place name or the word for "ewer"; if the latter, the post was presumably an attendant at imperial banquets.
