Ioannes 178 was a stratelates; owner of a seal dateable to the mid or late seventh century (second or third thirds, Seibt): Seibt, Bleisiegel, no. 202. Obv.: [+] [Θε] - οτόκ[ε] - βοήθ[ι]. Rev.: [Ἰ]ω[άν] - νου σ[τ]ρα - τιλά - του). On the use of the genitive, see Seibt, Bleisiegel, p. 339. The title stratelates was probably honorific (the honorary title of magister militum). This man is perhaps different from the owner of another seal which has palaeographic similarities to Seibt, Bleisiegel, no. 202, viz. Konstantopoulos, JIAN 9, 209e (obv.: + Θε - οτοκε - βοιθ - η; rev.: Ιω - αννου - στρατ - ιλατ[ου]).
