Ioannes 177 was a stratelates; owner of a seal dateable to the mid seventh century (the middle third, Seibt): Seibt, Bleisiegel, no. 201. Obv.: cruciform monogram of Ιωαννου. Rev.: st. - atil - atu (the Greek word is in Latin characters). The title was probably honorific (the honorary title of magister militum); see PLRE III, indices, p. 1506.
