Ioannes 53 was bishop of Andrapa in Helenopontus; in 681 he attended the Third Council of Constantinople (the Sixth Ecumenical Council) and was present at two of the last three sessions (sessions sixteen and eighteen, on 9 August and 16 September): Riedinger II 2. 690-826 (= Mansi XI 616-676). In the subscriptions to the statement of the faith, which condemned monotheletism, and in the signatures to the Council, he is styled Ἰωάννης ἐλέει Θεοῦ ἐπίσκοπος τῆς Ἀνδραπηνῶν πόλεως: Riedinger II 2. 792, line 7, 826, line 28 (= Mansi XI 649, 676). The old Latin version printed in Riedinger II 2. 793, line 8, calls his see "
