Ioannes 50 was bishop of Anaia (Anea) in Asiana; in 681 he attended the Third Council of Constantinople (the Sixth Ecumenical Council) and was present at two of the last three sessions (sessions sixteen and eighteen, on 9 August and 16 September): Riedinger II 2. 688-826 (= Mansi XI 613-676). In the subscriptions to the statement of the faith, which condemned monotheletism, and to the Council, he is styled Ἰωάννης ἐλέει Θεοῦ ἐπίσκοπος τῆς Ἀνεατῶν πόλεως (Riedinger II 2. 826, line 9 (= Mansi XI 676) reads: τῆς Ἄνεων) τῆς Ἀσιανῶν ἐπαρχίας: Riedinger II 2. 788, line 9, 826, line 9 (= Mansi XI 648, 676). The old Latin version printed in Mansi at XI 647 wrongly calls his see "
