Iakobos 16 was a monk who became a bishop; he followed an ascetic life and was a staunch supporter of the veneration of icons, for which he suffered persecution and exile: Synax. Eccl. Const. 558, 2-9; 551/552, 43-54; Menol. Bas. 361D-363A (where he is called Iakobos the Younger, ὁ νέος).
