Iakobitzes 1 was one of the assassins who helped Basilios 7 (Basil I) to murder the emperor Michael III (Michael 11) (on 23 September 867); he and Apelates 1 struck the patrikios Basiliskianos 1 with their swords and threw him down from the imperial chamber: Leo Gramm. 251, Georg. Mon. Cont. 837, Ps.-Symeon 685. He was later killed in an accident with his horse while out hunting with Basilios 7 in the Philopation: Leo Gramm. 253, Georg. Mon. Cont. 839, Ps.-Symeon 687.
