Hincmar 1 was archbishop of Reims ("Remorum archiepiscopus"); he deposed and imprisoned the bishop of Soissons, Rothad 1, when the latter was appealing to Rome, contrary to the rules of Sardica; the bishop of Rome, Nicolas I (Nikolaos 28), ordered him to send Rothad 1 to Rome together with envoys ("missi") of his own for the hearing; Rothad 1 went to Rome but no one appeared there to accuse him: Lib.
