Gregorios 166 was a soldier (στρατιώτης) who became a monk; Gregorios 166 and Gregorios 167 were supporters of the veneration of icons and for their opposition to the iconoclast policy of the emperor Constantine V (Konstantinos 7) they were banished (before 775); both men died in exile; they were both commemorated on 28 November, the same date as Stephanos 2 (Stephen the Younger): Synax. Eccl. Const. 264, 4-7.
