Godescalc 1 was a Lombard dux of Beneventum, in succession to Gregorius (Gregorios 80); he held the post for three years; he was married to Anna 7: Paul. Diac., Hist. Lang. VI 56 ("post cuius obitum Godescalcus dux effectus annis tribus Beneventanis praefuit; cui in coniugio uxor sociata nomine Anna fuit"). Liutprand 1 overthrew the dux of Spoletium, Trasimund 3, and then marched on Beneventum; at news of his approach Godescalc 1 planned to flee by ship to Byzantium ("in Greciam"); he had put his wife and goods on board but was attacked by supporters of Gisulf 2 from Beneventum and killed before he could board himself; his wife and goods reached Constantinople in safety: Paul. Diac., Hist. Lang. VI 57.
