Georgios 99 was bishop of Pergamon; owner of a seal dateable to the late eighth or early ninth century (see below): Laurent, Corpus V 1, no. 286 (= Regling, "Bleisiegel III", pp. 98-99). Obv.: Virgin and Child between monograms of Θεοτόκε and βοήθει. Rev.: +Γεω - ργιω επι - σκοπω πο - λεως Περ - γαμου. The layout of the obverse (monograms of Θεοτόκε and βοήθει on either side of the Virgin and Child) is characteristic of the iconoclast reaction, AD 787-815; see Nesbitt and Oikonomides, DO Seals I, p. 36, note on 7.1. Laurent assigns this seal to the ninth or tenth century.
