Georgios 40 was bishop of Ainos in Thrace (Rhodope); in 692 he attended the Quinisext Council in Constantinople and signed the canons: Ohme, Bischofsliste, p. 152, no. 53 (= Mansi XI 992) (Γεώργιος ἀνάξιος ἐπίσκοπος τῆς Αἰνιτῶν πόλεως τῆς Θρᾳκῶν χώρας).
