Eugenios 3 | Prosopography of the Byzantine Empire |
Sex | M |
Floruit | VII |
Titles | Apo eparchon (dignity); Droungarios (office) |
Seal Sources | Schlumberger, G. Sigillographie de l'empire byzantin (Paris, 1884) |
Eugenios 3 was apo eparchon and droungarios; owner of a seal perhaps dateable to the seventh century: Schlumberger, Sig., p. 336 (facsimile) with n. 1. Obv.: invocative monogram of Θεοτόκε βοήθει with the name Εὐγ[έν]ίῳ. Rev.: +απο - επαρχω - ν (καὶ) δρου - [γ]γαριω. The seal is dated by Schlumberger to the sixth century and the owner identified with a Eugenios who was once praetorian prefect (wrongly, since apo eparchon was an honorific title, not the title of a former prefect)(cf. PLRE III, Eugenius 1). The seal probably dates from the seventh century (and cf. PLRE III, index, p. 1515).
