Eirene 16 was hegoumene of an unknown monastery; she was the addressee of a letter from Theodoros 15 (Theodore the Stoudite), written between 821 and 826; she had intervened with Theodoros 15 on behalf of a priest who had entered into communion with the iconoclasts; she is styled σου τὴν τιμιότητα and addressed as τιμιωτάτη γυναικῶν, ἀδελφὴ ἐν κυρίῳ and ὦ ἀμμάς: Theod. Stud., Ep. 536 (addressed Εἰρήνῃ ἡγουμέμῃ).
