A timber merchant, Demetrios 15 enjoyed a reputation for his good sense and pious living; after the death of his wife he planned to become a monk and discussed with the patriarch his wish to be tonsured as a monk in the monastery headed by Evarestos 1 (St Evarestos) (then at Kokkorobion in Constantinople) and to dispose of his timber factory; the patriarch promised to make him hegoumenos of the monastery of Hexaboulion; he went straight to see Evarestos 1 and found that the holy man already knew of his appointment: Vita S. Evaristi 35 (pp. 317-318). The date is mid or late ninth century.
