Dargaskabos 1 was archon of Hellas; owner of a seal dateable to the eighth or ninth century: Konstantopoulos, JIAN 5, 49 = Schlumberger, Mélanges, 4. The name and title read: Δαργασκάβου ἄρχοντος Ἑλλάδος. Schlumberger read the name as: Δαργδεκάβου. The name suggests that he was a Slav. Seibt suggested that the archon of Hellas was archon of the Slavs in the theme of Hellas; see W. Seibt, Review of Zacos and Veglery, in ByzSlav 36 (1975), p. 211, and Winkelmann, Rangstruktur, p. 94. His name may have been Dragoslav; see Ph. Malingoudis, Σλάβοι στὴ μεσαιωνικὴ Ἑλλάδα (Thessalonike, 1988), p. 47, n. 45.
