Bardas 17 was a basilikos protospatharios; owner of a seal dateable to the first half of the eighth century: Zacos and Veglery 1753A. Obv.: cruciform monogram of Θεοτόκε βοήθει, with [τω] - σω - [δου] - λω in the corners. Rev.: Βαρδ[α] - βα' α' [σπ] - αθα[ριω]. The name and titles read: Βάρδᾳ βασιλικῷ πρωτοσπαθαρίῳ.
