Barbatos 1 was bishop of Beneventum in Campania; Barbatos 1 was one of the hundred and twenty-five Western bishops who attended the Council of Rome at Easter 680, and who subscribed the decree condemning monotheletism: Riedinger, p. 142, lines 1-3 (= Mansi XI 300) (Βαρβάτος χάριτι Θεοῦ ἐπίσκοπος τῆς ἁγίας ἐκκλησίας Βενεβέντου ἐπαρχίας Καμπανίας).
