In 770 Banakas 1 invaded the Roman empire and took many prisoners: Theoph. AM 6262. Presumably an Arab army commander serving under the caliph al-Mansour 1. In 772 he again invaded the Roman empire and went to Isauria, where he laid siege to Syke; his route home was cut off by large Roman forces and he was threatened by the fleet of Kibyrrhaiotai, but although in a difficult situation he led his troops out against the armies of the themes (see Michael 4, Manes 2 and Bardanes 2) and put them to flight; Banakas 1 took prisoners from all around the area and returned home with great quantities of booty: Theoph. AM 6263.
