Baanes 9 was a basilikos protospatharios and strategos of Thrake; owner of a seal dateable between the last third of the ninth and the early tenth centuries: Seyrig 201. The name and titles read: Βαάνῃ βασιλικῷ πρωτοσπαθαρίῳ καὶ στρατηγῷ τῆς Θρᾴκης. The editors (Cheynet, Morrisson and Seibt) propose to identify this man with Baanes 8; they also suggest that he took office under Basil I (Basilios 7).
