Asotes 1 was a basilikos spatharios; owner of a seal dateable to the eighth century: Zacos and Veglery 1746. Obv.: cruciform monogram of Θεοτόκε βοήθει, with τω - σω - δου - λω in the corners. Rev.: +Ασω - τη β' ς - παθ'. There is apparently a mark of abbreviation over the ω of the name, but it is not clear what the expansion, if any, might be. The name and title probably therefore read: Ἀσώτῃ βασιλικῷ σπαθαρίῳ. The name is presumably the Armenian name "Ashot".
