Ascheric 1 was a Frankish comes (Ascherico comite); in 799 Ascheric 1 and Hildebald 1 were sent by Charlemagne (Karoulos 1) to meet the bishop of Rome, pope Leo III (Leo 11) who was en route to see Karoulos 1: Lib. Pont. 98. 16.
