Anonymus 774 was apparently a wandering monk; he is described as a false hermit (ἕνα δὲ τῶν ἐμπεριάκτων ψευδερημίτην) and a fellow magician (συγγόητα) of Nikolaos 2; he is said to have damaged and dishonoured an icon of the Theotokos; for this reason his tongue was cut out by the emperor Michael I (Michael 7) in 812 and he died, losing his soul and his life: Theoph. AM 6304.
