Anonymus 737 was an envoy sent to the caliph Wathiq (al-Wathiq 1) early in the reign of Michael III (Michael 11) to negotiate for peace and the exchange of prisoners; because the Arabs had far fewer captives than the Romans he insisted that al-Wathiq 1 make the numbers equal by freeing Christian slaves: Bar Hebr., p. 140. Al-Wathiq 1 was caliph between 842 and 847.
