Anonymus 591 was a ruler of the Bulgars (ὁ ἀρχηγὸς Βουλγάρων); Anonymus 591 is said to have rejected offers of a peace treaty made to him by the emperor Leo V (Leo 15) but was then outmanoeuvred by him in battle and defeated; Anonymus 591 was captured and his children were either killed or imprisoned: Genesius I 12. He is not named; the narrative in Genesius suggests that he was Krum 1, but other sources do not record such an event; possibly he was Omurtag 1 early in his reign whose thirty year treaty with Leo 15 conceivably was a consequence of this defeat.
