Anonymus 300 was an official (probably an Arab), who had Anonymus 299 tortured to death for refusing to abjure Christ after he had indicated that he would do so; the incident occurred in Crete while Ioseph 12 (Joseph the Hymnographer) was in captivity there: Ioannes, Vita Ioseph. Hymnog. 957C (τοῦ ἐκεῖσε τὴν̀ν ἄρχην περιέποντος), cf. Theophanes, Vita Ioseph. Hymnog. 6 (alluding to the same incident). The date was c. 841.
