Anonymus 294 was a monk at Thessalonike; he was a stylite and a hesychast; once, when the disciple who attended on him was absent on some business, a woman who was related to the disciple performed the function of his attendant and they began to fall in love; Gregory the Decapolite (Gregorios 79) was known to the man (γνωστὸς ὢν τῷ στυλοβάτῃ) and, although sick, hastened to the place, drove the woman away with a stick and gave the monk some stern advice: Ignatius, Vita Greg. Dec. 24.
