Anonymus 281 was an ascetic (τινι ἀσκητῃ; probably a monk), whom Methodios 1 encountered on his first arrival in Constantinople; he advised Methodios 1 to give away his wealth and become a monk if he wanted to achieve his ambitions, and Methodios 1 followed his advice and did so: Vita Method. 1245B-C.
