Anonymus 230 was a monk; during the reign of Michael I (Michael 7) he erased an icon of the Theotokos in order to demonstrate his iconoclast piety; for this the emperor Michael 7 ordered his tongue cut out: Zon. XV 17. 11-12 (μοναχὸν δέ τινα εὐλαβείας τάχα σκηνὴν ἐνδεικνύμενον εὑρηκὼς εἰκόνα τῆς θεομήτορος ἀποξέσαντα τῆς γλώσσης ἀφείλετο).
