Anonymus 195 was formerly a servant of Manuel 1, working as cupbearer for the emperor Theophilos 5 when he heard that Theophilos 5 intended to blind Manuel 1 after listening to accusations, described as false, against him; Anonymus 195 told Manuel 1, who escaped and took refuge among the Arabs; Manuel 1 seems to have made a gift of him to the emperor (δούλου μὲν πρότερον ὄντος τοῦ Μανουήλ, τότε δὲ ἐκ χαρίσματος οἰνοχοοῦντος τῷ Θεοφίλῳ καὶ ἐξυπηρετοῦντος): Theoph. Cont. III 25 (p. 118), cf. Scyl., p. 70, lines 3-5 (the same story).
