Anonymus 174 was a member of the nobility and a friend of Philaretos 1 (St Philaretos); at a time when Philaretos 1 had impoverished himself, Anonymus 174 held the post of dioiketes and was able to send Philaretos 1 supplies of grain: Nicetas, Vita S.Philareti, p. 133, 12-13 (τις τῶν ἀρχόντων φίλος αὐτοῦ διοικητὴς τὸ ἀξίωμα). Anonymus 174 was perhaps dioiketes in Paphlagonia, where Philaretos 1 lived.
