Anonymi 34 were a group of men from the small and barren island of Androte who once visited Ignatius the Deacon (Ignatios 9) for help; they explained that they were captains of ships taking grain to Constantinople (πλοίων γὰρ σιτηγούντων ὑπάρχομεν ναύκληροι, ἃ τὸν φόρτον τῷ δημοσίῳ λόγῳ εἴωθε κομίζειν ἐπέτειον) who had extracted wheat from their cargo once in time of need, replacing it with barley; they had been found out and in consequence had been beaten and tonsured and were facing financial penalties; they asked Ignatios 9 to intercede on their behalf with the genikos logothetes Democharis 1 to have the fine cancelled: Ignatius Diac., Ep. 21. The date was before 826; cf. Democharis 1.
