Abd ar-Rahman 3 was ruler of the Arabs in Spain (τὸν ἔξαρχον τοῦ ἔθνους Ἀβδεραχμάν); defeated and killed by the Frank Pepin 1 in battle near the river Po: Theoph. AM 6216. He was in fact killed by Charles Martel in 732 at the battle of Poitiers; the account in Theophanes is confused. Cf. Rochow, Theophanes, pp. 108-110.
